Emergency Sub Plans (or last week of school plans!!!). All about BATS! My littles have LOVED this set! So much fun exploring bats, learning new vocabulary, reading, writing, and practicing their math skills!
Also included is a list of art discovery links!
There are at least 3 hours of instructional material included in this pack! We spent all week with BATS a couple of weeks ago, just using this material to fill in the gaps between long recesses, activities, parties, assemblies, etc.
You can find this great little set HERE.

{Math Sort FREEBIE!}
Saw this idea on Pinterest. The link led only to the image. I hate that. lol.
So, I recreated it...using it today with some of my littles.
It's a great idea, and the link to the original image is on the front page of the download. :)
Image is linked. Please play fair. Thanks!

[Incognito Sums] [Teacher's Notebook] [CureSearch]
Thank you so much for your support for our family through purchases at Teacher's Notebook! I am so excited about the donation to be made to CureSearch in Kenton's name. I can't even explain what this means to our family!
Kenton is improving each day. As soon as his platelets cooperate and stick around for 2 days in a row, he'll be released from PCMC!!
He and Luke will remain in SLC for the rest of the 100 days post transplant.
McKayslin and I will spend our weekends with them.
We sure love our weekends!
We've learned so much about our family through this journey.
Please consider stopping by the Team Kenton blog to keep up on Kenton's progress and our family's journey as we continue working to find happiness during heartbreak.
Now, for today's activity.
I LOVE THIS ONE!
Our district adopted Go Math! this year.
I absolutely adore Go Math!
One of the things I love the very most is that it really gives us, as teachers, ways to help our students develop thinking strategies in regards to mathematics.
We have lots of practice - and much of the fact practice uses "backwards" facts (ie: facts that have the sum on the left instead of on the right).
This.is.tricky. :)
So. . .after a bit of encouragement from Dana (thanks, Dana!), I sat down and created
Incognito Sums!
25% off through November 15.
I hope your kiddos love this game!
See you Tuesday!
THANKS AGAIN!!!

[Circus Facts] LIMITED
Okay, friends.
I dropped the ball. Again.
This new reality of mine is kind of making a mess of my plans. ;)
Because I haven't posted since last week sometime, I've put ALL of the circus facts (from number recognition all the way through adding 10) into a zip file.
They're HERE free until I sit down with my laptop tomorrow night.
Please let me know if you download these.
Tuesday I'll have something fun for you over at Latter-Day Crafters.
Wednesday (hopefully) I'll be back on a semi-normal posting schedule.
Kenton starts the whole chemo/bone marrow transplant process Thursday morning.
If you believe in prayer, please keep him in yours.
This process is long, difficult, and sometimes very painful.
Thank you so much!

[It's been a while. . .] and POW! tens
It's been a while!
Thanks for sticking with me.
Things are going as well as can be expected on the home front.
As always, you can check updates on that at Team Kenton.
One day when I was at the hospital with Kenton (last week sometime), I kept thinking of this game that I wanted for my classroom. So I made it. :)
And I printed it, laminated it, cut it apart, and made Kenton play it with me.
And I printed it, laminated it, cut it apart, and made Kenton play it with me.
He LOVED it!
And today, I made McKayslin and Luke play it with us.
McKayslin LOVED it also!
(Luke, not so much because he kept getting beat, lol).
I didn't know if I'd be able to share or sell it because of copyright restrictions.
So I asked Dustin Pike (DoodleDragonStudios) for direction.
His response was that if the art was credited to him, I was within copyright.
YAY!!!!
So. . .here it is.
POW! ten.
You'll love it!
Your kids will love it!
They'll be proficient in facts of ten in no time at all!
It's a fast paced game (seriously less than 5 minutes per round - that's with 2 players - when all four of us were playing, it was about a 3 minute round).
Very little prep on your part - just print, laminate (if you wish), cut, and play.
Now. . .here's the deal.
POW! ten is only available at Teacher's Notebook.
It's 3 bucks.
3 little dollars.
BUT. . . as a special thank you for still following this poor neglected blog. . .if you purchase POW! ten in the next 24 hours (deadline is Monday, August 14, 9:00 pm) AND leave feedback at Teacher's Notebook, I'll send you POW! eleven, twelve, thirteen. . .all the way to POW! eighteen absolutely FREE! I will be adding these to my Teacher's Notebook shop soon. You can have them ready to use in your classroom before school starts before I even list them! :)
Just be sure to leave either a comment HERE with a valid e-mail address or leave a valid e-mail address when you leave feedback at Teacher's Notebook so I know where to send your bonus files.
Have a great week!

[Space Walk Finger Twister] Addition Expansion Pack - facts with sums of 10-20
I love being able to teach my littles a game and then create playing cards for that game that reinforce new skills. Doing that allows their focus to be on the skills, not learning the rules of another game.
This first expansion pack for Space Walk Finger Twister targets addition facts with sums of 10-20. Perfect for the next step in addition instruction or to differentiate the level of play - just run this set of cards on a different color of cardstock.
Limited Freebie for TODAY only!
Then it's going into the addition game pack!
I hope you were able to pick up the Game Boards and Rules for Space Walk Finger Twister on Sunday! Otherwise these won't make a whole lot of sense.
Be watching for expansion facts that feature subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.
Have a great week!

[Space Walk Finger Twister] Addition Facts to 10
We get to keep Kenton home for one more full week before he goes back for treatment! :)
His marrow and spinal fluid are both completely clear of leukemia cells!!
Cause for celebration for sure!
The road is still really long with many twists and turns and unknown potholes.
Thanks for your continued prayers on our behalf.
This little addition game has been simmering in my brain for a while.
I finally took a few minutes to get it out of there and into playable format.
I think it's going to be a class favorite!
After all, who doesn't love Twister?!
Image is linked to the PDF game which is free for Sunday-Monday only.
On Monday it will go away and join the Rocketing to Addition Game Pack which will soon be for sale on Teacher's Notebook.
It's so good to be home for a while and just be together as a family.
We've watched a lot of movies.
Played a lot of games.
Just really enjoyed being together.
Take a few minutes and let your family know how much you love them.
Then save this game to your files or print it out and get it ready for the new school year.
Have a great Sunday!

[needed a break so you get a freebie]
This living in ICS at PCMC day in and day out is exhausting.
Kenton is "stuck" in his room until his ANC comes up.
It's currently at ZERO.
That means he has ZERO natural ability to fight infection.
ZERO.
It's scary that they have to kill off everything to kill off the bad guys. :(
You can read more about our stay (only the past 2 days - I really need to get caught up!) at www.TeamKenton.blogspot.com .
He and I are so much alike.
This being together 24/7 thing is a little bit tough.
He actually kicked me out the other day, lol.
"No offense mom, but I kind of need a break! Don't you need to go get some lunch?!"
So. . .during the day, I get a few minutes of good creating time.
Sometimes I'm blogging at Team Kenton.
Sometimes I'm on Facebook.
Often I'm texting family and friends.
But. . .today I actually had some creating time to get this game out of my brain and into actual playable format!
It's free through Friday morning only when it will be added to the Rocketing to Addition game pack.
I'd love if you left a comment.
Let me know people are still hanging around.
I'll be in and out over the next few months.
Still adjusting to our new reality.
It's not fun.
It's really really tough.
Hardest thing I've ever done.
Just hoping to come out on the flip side stronger, more patient, more compassionate, and in one piece.
Have a great Thursday!

[Adding Astronauts] addition match game FREE TODAY ONLY!
Today only you can pick up this super cute FREE addition match game.
After today, it will be added to the "Rocketing to Addition" game pack.
I created this game using some scaffolding for success.
The "answer" cards should be printed with the astronaut with the flag on the back.
The "question" cards should be printed with the astronaut in the rocket on the back.
That way, my littles will know to choose one of each to try and make a match.
This game will be played in early September when addition is an incredibly new concept for most of them. I want the focus more on the addition and less on the actual memory game.
This first pack contains ONLY sums that equal 10 or less
AND the doubles facts up through 10+10.
Doubles facts are easy to memorize and can be a useful strategy when adding neighbor numbers. Plus, it made the number of cards come out evenly. lol.
No reciprocal facts (ie: 1+3 does not appear on another card as 3+1).
Why? Because there are already enough cards in the deck for beginner players.
No need to muddy the waters just yet. ;)
Other packs will be added so the challenge level of the game may be increased.
That's my reasoning. It makes sense to me, which may or may not be saying much. . .
2 more days of math class.
There was a killer problem on the homework last night that I *hope* I solved correctly.
If Susan invested $12,000 in two different accounts (a CD account that earns 7.25% interest and a money market account that earns 5.4% interest) and earned $730 in interest over the course of the year, how much did she initially invest in the money market account?
Um, I don't know?
Just kidding. I did figure it out, and mathematically the answers are all reasonable, but it took me for.e.ver. and a LOT of paper because I kept trying different strategies and equations to get to the end result. I only hope it's correct. Guess I'll find out in a few short hours. . .
I know, why don't YOU figure this one out, leave your answer in the comments (along with HOW you solved the problem and an e-mail address) and if you're correct, I'll send you something fun!! Then YOU can suffer right along with me. Although you can probably figure it out in 12 seconds with 1/4 sheet of paper. . .
And, then, what a non-joyous start to the morning - the boy was getting ready to eat breakfast and head off with the scouts to put flags up for flag day when he grabbed the garbage can and threw up. A lot. :(
That means no helping with the flags and no baseball for him tonight.
He's sad. I'm sad for him.
Besides, the whole throwing up thing just doesn't sit well with me.
That's Luke's job.
And he's at work. Waaaahhhhhh!!!
Happy THURSDAY!
May your day be filled with sunshine and fun (and not barf).

[Congrats, Steph!] and 3-2-1- blast off with math facts limited freebie
Random.Goose picked comment FIVE as the winner of the Lucy Ladybug Pack.
Congrats, Steph of ABC and 123!
I'll be e-mailing your pack this afternoon. :)
Thanks, everyone, for playing along!
Great tips for starting the year!
Looking forward into Chapter 1 (addition concepts), I created this fun little workmat that is free FOR TODAY ONLY!
I was thinking of putting this in a sheet protector and using smarties, skittles, cereal, or m&m's to mark off the sums so the workmat itself could be used over and over. I have in my mind a recording sheet that I just need to get made that the kids could use to record their addition equations. However, it's still in my mind. Hopefully I can get it out of my mind and into cyberspace soon. Maybe this afternoon. . .
Anyway! Remember - this 3-2-1-Blast Off page will soon be found in the "Rocketing to Addition" game pack!
3 more days of math class.
I can do this.

[Clowns at the Circus] FREE data collection pack
I'm in math class this week.
And next, but we won't talk about that yet. ;)
Our group is doing a presentation on data collection and representation.
Something I didn't do so well with this past year.
This year I'm determined to do better, starting with this Clowns at the Circus graphing practice pack.
5 pages of wonderfulness - story problem, cutting/gluing, representing data, interpreting data, creating a 3 addend equation. Heck, yeah, this is good stuff!
Why, then, is it free?!
{image is linked to the pdf download}
Well, because I haven't tested this in the classroom yet.
Kind of hard to test it with my littles when they're all currently enjoying summer vacation.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be awesome!
The idea is so perfect for what the CCSS state.
So. . .what do you think?
Click on it, download it, try it with your littles (either in your home or in your classroom if you're still teaching [which if you are, I'm so sorry!]), let me know your impressions.
And most of all, have a super day!
Thanks for stopping by, for saying hi, for leaving comments of thanks and encouragement, for supporting me.

[Trade or NO Trade] trading intro freebie
I am about to embark into the strange world of trading.
Not spouses or anything.
That would be weird.
Trading. You know, what we learned as carrying.
Yikes.
But to answer Raina's question about number bonds first - yes, the number bonds on the brain busters sheets are just adding. The number bond has the parts attached to the whole. So if there were a number in the circle attached to both parts, and a number in one of the attached circles, but not the other, you would subtract. Make sense? If not, leave a comment with your e-mail address, and I'll see if I can explain it better.
Before I start expecting my littles to actually write the math fact WITH the trade, I want them to get a good grasp on which facts would NEED a trade.
I'm hoping this is going to help.
Trade or NO Trade.
No complete computation necessary - just a quick check in the ones column to see if a trade would be necessary.
Ha, ha, so we tried this today.
And I made changes on the fly.
This game works now.
Told you I'd update if it didn't work, lol.
PLEASE download the updated file, instructions, and additional cards. :)
Image is linked.
The PDF file iskind of HUGE!
You definitely do NOT need to print every card, nor do you need every card to play the game! I added cards for the 20s (21-29) being added with 1-9. So. . .there are 20 pages in the file! Aaack! It's all good. (Right, Pete?!).
Why did I add the 20s? Because my littles were simply trying to tell me the answer to the addition fact. I didn't want that! I wanted them to tell me if it was a TRADE or NO TRADE problem! I *think* that by increasing the top addends by 10, they'll focus more on just the ONES place because the facts won't be so readily solvable.
Or something.
I was seeing some growth today just in the few minutes we had to play.
A few lightbulb moments. LOVE those!

[Superstar Lilly] ADDITION FREEBIE!
My littles are needing some practice with DOUBLES facts and NEAR DOUBLES (which, yes, I realize is NOT in the CORE, but is such an incredible strategy if they can just get into the habit of using it!!). They LOVE LOVE LOVE "POOF!" but I wanted something a little different, so I created SUPERSTAR!
(Which uses the oh so a.dor.a.ble clip art from The 3 am Teacher!!)
If your littles are needing help with this also, please download this, use it, pin it, love it, send your friends over to download it, and PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS WONDERFUL, leave a comment. :)
Image is linked.
Now, for those of you who actually visit my blog AND leave a comment, I have a little surprise for you!
I was thinking of the fact that my littles are also struggling with automatic fact recall (not all of them, just a few, but practice is always helpful).
So. . .
I added a set of addition cards (1.OA.6).
And put the set on Teacher's Notebook.
For only $1!!
Hop on over and check it out!
Did you keep reading?!
Awesome!
Do you follow my blog?
You'll want to. :)
AND. . .you'll want to leave a comment today with your e-mail address (between 8:00 am standard mountain time and 8:00 pm standard mountain time) letting me know that you do, indeed, follow my blog, and what your favorite FREE activity is that I've posted. If you do that, you'll receive a special little thank you surprise in your inbox.
HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

[POOF!]
Ummmm. . .yeah, needing some practice with basic addition facts in my classroom.
Remember how I said my littles were rock stars at addition?!
I might have been confused.
So. . .there will be MUCH practice coming their way this week.
MUCH PRACTICE!
We're playing FAST FACT (an awesome game using cards - face cards removed - where the dealer places 2 cards on the table and the first student to correctly give the sum (because we're adding) gets those cards - winner is the player with the most cards when the dealer has no more cards).
We're playing MAKE TEN (using cards again - face cards and TENS removed - dealer lays ten cards on the table (face up) - players must say the parts of 10 - ie: 6+4=10 - student gets the set of 10 that they say - dealer fills the spaces created from those cards with cards from the deck - winner is the player with the most cards when the dealer has no more cards).
We're practicing our 3 addend addition strategies using the work mats I shared on Monday and Tuesday.
AND. . .we're going to play POOF!
This game board can be used for anything!
The directions are for math using dice, but you can easily use it with flashcards, playing cards, or for spelling (give the player a word - she moves one space for each letter in the correctly spelled word).
The trick to this is to move right the correct number of spaces (the sum or the difference) - if you hit the end of the path, you then have to move back to the left to complete your turn. You stay on that path until you land on a "POOF" square. When you land on "POOF," you get to drop down to the next path. To make this a little more competitive, use the rule that if a player lands on a space occupied by another player, he sends that player back to start. Oh, the horror! Bwah-hah-hah.
Your littles won't mind practicing their math facts over and over with this game.
Truthfully, they won't even realize that they're practicing!
Enjoy. :)

If you like it, take it, pin it, use it, let me know how it works for you.
Thanks for the happy thoughts.
Happy WEDNESDAY!!!
[3 addend STRATEGY practice] FREE download
Wow. Yesterday was a tough day.
A really tough day.
Not going to lie. I was soooo glad to hear that bell at the end of the day!
I think aliens had taken over my sweet littles because, wow.
That's about all I can say.
Anyway. . .I gave the addition pre-test.
My class did amazingly well (with the exception of a couple of my alien infested littles that I KNOW would do well on any other day - so frustrated!!).
The 3 addend stuff was still a little tricky.
Definitely something we can work on during learning rotations this afternoon.
Image is linked.
If you like this, take it, use it, leave me a little thanks. :)
(And a little wish for a MUCH better day would be appreciated also, lol).

[Adding with 3 Addends] FREE download
That was a wonderful weekend. :)
Well, all except the migraine that attacked Friday afternoon and stayed through Friday night, came back with a vengeance Sunday during church and is still lingering this morning. . .
I'm choosing to avoid that part of the weekend, lol.
And now. . .BOOM! It's Monday morning again.
How exactly did that happen?!
We're starting our next topic - Addition Facts - this week.
My littles are ROCK STARS at addition.
Mostly.
This 3 addend stuff is still pretty new, so we're going to be reviewing the rules a bit this week, and practicing A LOT! Starting today with this little ditty. . .
We review the reasons for adding in a given order many MANY times during instruction. Some of my littles already know this rule and use it with ease. Others are still trying to just add in order. It's a good skill to have, that associative property of addition (CCSS1.OA.3 - understand and apply properties of operations) thing. ;)
Image is linked. If this is something you can use, please take it, use it, and let me know with a happy little comment. :)
Have a great week!

[Tuesday] and a fun little math freebie
Okay, so I remember being tagged a couple of times when I was sick and I can't remember who tagged me. :(
If it was you, please remind me so I can do that! Thanks!
If it was you, please remind me so I can do that! Thanks!
Today's freebie is an old favorite, recycled from way back when I first started blogging.
Roll 3. Great fun practice working with 3 numbers.
Some of your littles will ask if they can subtract instead of add.
Others will want to add AND subtract.
Perfect little activity where littles self-differentiate.
Image is linked.
I'm exhausted.
And grumpy.
My littles will get the "fair warning" talk this morning.
That might help?
Hope you're having a good day!
