[broken bonds] now on Teacher's Notebook

2 days till Spring Break.
2 days.
2.

It's been kind of a rough week.
My littles are ex.haust.ed.
Truthfully, so am I.

We're still working on subtraction facts.
I know.

Our subtraction games are losing some of their appeal since we've been playing them for 2 months now.
We need something new.
{drumroll please. . .}
BROKEN BONDS using the stinkin' cute clip art from AI Factory!
The game format is nearly identical to Bunny Hop.
The exception is that the character cards cause you to move backwards.

This will make it an independent practice game for my littles that understand and really just need the practice so I can reteach those that really still are struggling.
Yay for that.

The bonds are parts of ten, doubles, near doubles, and the "teens" facts (but with addends of 10 or less because that is the core).

This game is now available on Teacher's Notebook and is on sale through tomorrow for only $1.60!  If you didn't get a chance to download it free, it's still an incredibly affordable resource that your littles will LOVE!

[Mixed Up Elves] subtraction review

It's almost time for our end of topic assessment.
We need a little more review.
A fun little December review.  :)
Simple subtraction equations and number bonds.

[Part Part Whole addition/subtraction workmat]

When I introduce addition (even as early as the first few days of school when we do the "houses" for each number, I have my munchkins use these workmats.  It's a great visual and gives them the math talk that they need to be familiar with.  I've used the divided plates, but have found more success with this little workmat.  I give each student one workmat, in a sheet protector, to be stored in their desks to use when they need them.  These are great for those kiddos that still need a visual representation of a number sentence in January because they can pull them out of their desks as needed and can be used for addition and subtraction.  :)

[number bonds and model drawing] - the new "catch phrases" in mathematics

If you haven't heard of number bonds yet, chances are, you will soon!
Number bonds and Model Drawing are ways to SHOW the relationship between the parts that create a number and the actual number itself.

There is an AWESOME explanation of number bonds HERE on the Let's Play Math website.
I highly suggest you hop over and read that blog entry, but be sure to come back for this free download that will help your students understand the number bond as well as give them an introduction to model drawing.

While I wouldn't advocate doing this work page for every.single.math.fact, it certainly is effective to use as an introduction to math facts, and would be valuable to use in conjunction with teaching addition and/or subtraction.
