[Writing Portfolio Samples] a year long gathering

As we're approaching the end of the year, I'm really wishing I'd done something like this for this year's class.  I recently pulled out some papers from the first of the year and was shocked by the improvement in their handwriting, spelling, and drawing skill!
Use one set of pages on the first school day of each month in the 2012-2013 school year, keep them in sheet protectors in a binder with other portfolio type projects/assessments, and at the end of the year, you'll have documented your students' growth with very little effort.  Image is linked to the 23 page PDF download.

We are lucky enough at our school to have Meet the Teacher Day in May every year where we get to meet our new littles.  That's why there is a Meet the Teacher Day/May 2012 sheet there.  :)
I seriously can't wait to start these!

Happy Monday!
Have a great week!
I'm hoping to survive the day.  Do you see the posting time of 3:20 am?!  Sigh.  I fell asleep on the couch Sunday afternoon and slept for almost an hour.  I'm not a napper.  Consequently, I'm wide awake at 3:20 am.  I've been up working on stuff for school since about 1:12.  So not cool.

  5. I am going to do this in September, January, and June of next year. Great idea! I can't imagine what the last couple of weeks of school would be like if parents knew who their kid's teacher was going to be next year. Lots of parents coming to "chat" or trying to talk the principal into a switch, it seems like! Maybe that's just my school.

  7. Thanks for this idea! I will be using this next year with my new students. We also do a Meet the Teacher Day & it is this Thursday, May 16. I am not real sure what I am doing yet for this. What do you do with your new little ones? We only have them for an hour & fifteen minutes but would like to do something different with them this year. Thanks again, Jackie jackie@acsnet.com

  8. Great idea! Wow, what a great concept to have a meet the teacher day before the school year ends. My school used to have a Back to School Night, the night before school started and parents would come, listen to the principal talk, and then find out about their child's/childrens' teacher. However, with budget cuts and furlough days, we no longer have it the night before school, but on the first night after school starts. Attendance is WAY down!
Thanks for this great writing idea!
