[swamped]

Life is kind of kicking my hiney right now.
Too many things to do and I haven't exactly been prioritizing well.
I think some days weeks months years are like that.

My little classity class (a few of them anyway) are really stretching boundaries and testing limits.  Yesterday I had a shadow because she couldn't make her own decisions well, so she had to do whatever I was doing. The goal was to help her realize that making her own decisions is MUCH more fun than living with mine.  For example, I have afternoon recess duty this week.  I've been walking the perimeter of the playground while watching the kids (5 laps = 1/2 mile, by the way, lol).  Yesterday, because that little darling had made such poor choices on her own, her recess choice was to be right by me the whole recess.  That means that she had to walk that half mile with me, and believe me, I didn't stroll.  When she complained, I said, "Well, perhaps you should make better choices when you're in charge of yourself so your recess choices can be your choices instead of mine."  I'm at my wit's end and not sure what else to do with this little one.  Any suggestions would be welcome.  Seriously.

On the home front, life is cruising along faster than I'd like.  My kiddos are growing and changing so fast.  They're at such fun ages and we're loving doing things as a family.  Add into that all of my other responsibilities, and, well, I'm swamped with life.  Not complaining.  Stating fact.

But, to quote Pete the Cat, it's all good!
Have a great Wednesday!

  1. What about presenting some possibilities to her? E.g. Recess: a. stay with teacher b. play with friends c. read something

    Maybe she is too overwhelmed to be able to make choices. I know that from some of my pupils and offering them different possibilities helped.

  2. I love how you phrased your "choices" tough discipline! I am sure that def. make her think a little clearer about the options you gave her (-;

    I hope you can get a little time to refresh! But don't fret...I think we are all a little frazzled this time of year. I know I am and I am NOT even teaching!! How does THAT happen?? hehehe

  3. Sounds like you handled it really well!

    I'm about to have my kids' desks back into groups so I can encourage some competition. Sometimes peer pressure is more effective than teacher pressure!

  4. Hi Deb,
    I think we are all feeling frazzled at this time of year. I think you handled the situation with your student in a good way. She still got to go outside and get some fresh air and exercise. I love Pete the Cat's philosophy, BUT he's never been a teacher.:)

  5. Deb-
    You are AWESOME and that little sweetie is lucky to have a teacher who is willing to model behavior and wants to spend extra time with her to make sure she understands her choices have an impact on herself and the class. My PE teacher and I were just talking about how we need to install a track so that kids aren't stuck inside at recess for acting crazy-- they can walk the track and work out the extra energy :)

    Hang in there!
