[SMASH!] ten more/ten less * one more/one less

Honestly, I thought my littles understood the concept of 10 more/10 less, 1 more/1 less, but when I gave the final assessment, well, let's just say that the results indicated otherwise.
Yikes!  Big yikes!

We need some additional practice, but are currently focusing on the next topic in our math series (measurement), so I wanted to have a fun little review/practice activity for them to use during learning stations until I can take a few days to reteach.

Their new favorite game is SMASH!  They beg to play Sight Word Smash all.the.time.
Hmmmmm. . .catch them with what they love, right?!

That's how this little game came about.
Plus I had adorable new clip art from Mr. Bubblegum that was begging to be used!  :)

Soooooo. . .introducing ten more/ten less * one more/one less SMASH!
I think my favorite part of this whole little game is the bonus cards which require the littles to actually use the correct mathematical phrase.
(I always run the BONUS cards on a different color of cardstock just to designate that they are BONUS cards).
Image is linked.

Enjoy!
If you like this (and take it), a comment would be so appreciated!
Thanks!

  4. I just told my coworkers that I was going to have to make some more problems with this concept because my kiddos weren't getting it and I got online and what do you know, you did all the work for me! I am so appreciative and thank you! You saved me a ton of time. Love it!

  5. Thanks for the game! Your blog is the first one I always check:) I love your ideas & I am just getting started in the blog world. Not sure what you mean about bonus cards on color?? Am I missing something from the game?

  6. Jackie,

The bonus cards are the ones that say (for example) 28 is _________ than 18. The player has to say "28 is 10 more than 18" to take the shortcut. Does that make sense?
