[Fact Family Friends]

It all started with Pinterest.  ;)
Some Most of my class is really struggling with the idea of Fact Families.
I know it's not life or death if they don't understand, but it sure does make addition and subtraction a heck of a lot easier!

So. . .I modified the activity to include a number bond, a part/part/whole graphic, and the entire fact family (addition AND subtraction).
We're also going to be working on detailed illustrations, so I added a box for an illustration of the student chosen that day.
Each day we'll choose a stick out of the can.
The chosen student will fill in an individual recording page and the rest of us will complete the page together with the doc cam to save paper.  The added bonus is that I can bind these into a class book at the end of this activity set.
If I notice that the understanding still isn't there, I'll have each student complete a recording page each day.
This will take my class 22 days.
At that point, they'll either totally get it, or I'll resign myself to the knowledge that I tried.
Oh did I ever try.

The images are linked to the PDF download.
Really, a kind word if you download this would make my day.

Hope you're enjoying your Christmas Break!  I'm finally feeling better, but now my little girl has a stomach bug.  One day we'll all be well around here!
