[Clowns at the Circus] FREE data collection pack

I'm in math class this week.
And next, but we won't talk about that yet.  ;)

Our group is doing a presentation on data collection and representation.
Something I didn't do so well with this past year.
This year I'm determined to do better, starting with this Clowns at the Circus graphing practice pack.

5 pages of wonderfulness - story problem, cutting/gluing, representing data, interpreting data, creating a 3 addend equation.  Heck, yeah, this is good stuff!

Why, then, is it free?!
{image is linked to the pdf download}
Well, because I haven't tested this in the classroom yet.
Kind of hard to test it with my littles when they're all currently enjoying summer vacation.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be awesome!
The idea is so perfect for what the CCSS state.

So. . .what do you think?
Click on it, download it, try it with your littles (either in your home or in your classroom if you're still teaching [which if you are, I'm so sorry!]), let me know your impressions.

And most of all, have a super day!
Thanks for stopping by, for saying hi, for leaving comments of thanks and encouragement, for supporting me.

[create a graph] simple graph for first timers

I've really been a slacker when it comes to graphing this year!  :(
Usually we graph at least once a week, but with all of the food allergies, I haven't been able to pull out my usual graphs, and haven't taken the time to create new ones.
That's pathetic.  I know.

Our next topic is graphing and data collection, so I figured I'd better get on the ball and get my littles some exposure to graphing before we hit the full on instruction and testing components of this topic.

I used the awesome clip art from Cre8tive-Hands.  There's my favorite little soccer guy again along with some adorable reading littles.

Image is linked to the PDF download through dropbox.
I'm still acclimating myself to how dropbox works, so if you can't access the file, PLEASE leave me a comment WITH your e-mail and I'll send it to you as soon as I can.

A couple of HAPPY notes - everyone at our house is feeling great again!  YAY!!
AND. . .3 days till spring break.
Not that I'm counting.  Whatever.

{another math data table}

The bears table was a hit with my class today!
Here is the worksheet we'll do tomorrow:
The questions are on a separate page.  Both pages are included in the pdf download.  I'm working on redoing the frog/playground page from yesterday.  Those dang little frogs just didn't show up well enough on the printed product.  :(

Clip art for this page is DJ Inkers.

{reading data tables}

Our current study in mathematics is "Graphing and Data."
First graders generally grasp the idea of graphing pretty easily.
The idea, however, of reading data tables, is a whole other issue.
These 2 worksheets are to help my kiddos practice putting data into tables, which, I believe, will in turn help them understand how to then interpret that data.
At least that's the hope.  ;)

Anyway. . .image is linked to the download.
Clip art for the Bears data table worksheet is from My Cute Graphics.
I hope to be adding a few more graphing/data table worksheets and activities in the next week or so, but I'm not sure that will actually happen!
Happy Almost Monday!

{March Weather Graph}

Friday we made the most adorable little lambs and lions (patterns were from The Mailbox).
We then talked about the weather and the saying, "In like a lion out like a lamb" and predicted how March would exit our state.
One of my kiddos said, "Does our prediction HAVE to be what we think will happen or can we PRETTY PLEASE choose what we HOPE will happen?!"
Please excuse the (uh-hem) high quality photo.  I took it with my phone.

I couldn't agree more!  March has been a pretty crappy weather month!
Each student chose a lamb or a lion and we built our graph in the hall.
As we reviewed what lamb and lion meant in weather terms, one of my little cuties said, "Lion means yucky, miserable, and pretty much just disgustingI"
Ha, ha, I love how they describe things!

Today we'll take this worksheet out to the hall, rediscover our graph, color this graph to match, use our math language to write about our predictions, and write a number sentence about the graph.
I am really, really hoping that March goes out like a LAMB!!
