[number bonds and model drawing] - the new "catch phrases" in mathematics

If you haven't heard of number bonds yet, chances are, you will soon!

Number bonds and Model Drawing are ways to SHOW the relationship between the parts that create a number and the actual number itself.

There is an AWESOME explanation of number bonds HERE on the Let's Play Math website.

I highly suggest you hop over and read that blog entry, but be sure to come back for this free download that will help your students understand the number bond as well as give them an introduction to model drawing.

While I wouldn't advocate doing this work page for every.single.math.fact, it certainly is effective to use as an introduction to math facts, and would be valuable to use in conjunction with teaching addition and/or subtraction.
